Product feature and application
Basic properties
Alloy steels contain alloying elements (e.g. manganese, silicon, nickel, titanium, copper, chromium, and aluminum) in varying proportions in order to manipulate the steel’s properties, such as its hardenability, corrosion resistance, strength, formability, weldability or ductility.
Feature
According to the different elements, and take appropriate processing technology, obtain high strength, high toughness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, low temperature resistance, high temperature resistance, non-magnetic and other special properties.
鈼?Type of alloy steel and application of machined parts
Popular and versatile, steel alloys 4140 and 4142 are carbon, chromium-molybdenum alloys. They are most suited for precision machining applications where strength, hardness and toughness are required. Heat treatment further improves the fatigue and surface strength of these alloys.
鈼?41L40 is the free machining version of 4140. The addition of lead and the process of cold drawing significantly improves the machinability of the alloy.
鈼?8620 is an alloy carburizing steel containing nickel, chromium and molybdenum. This low-cost alloy is flexible, wear resistant and well suited for conventional welding applications.
鈼?Steel alloy 52100 contains a high level of carbon and chromium, and has excellent strength and fatigue properties. It is commonly used for machining bearings and in applications that encounter high impact resistance.

FAQ
Q1: What is alloy and non alloy steel?
A: An alloy is a mixture or a blend of two or more metallic components. … The main difference between alloy and non-alloy steel is that an alloy steel is composed of iron added with other elements during smelting whereas non-alloy steel has no added elements when it is smelted.
Q2: What is alloy steel used for?
A: The addition of small amounts of other metals to make alloy steels changes the properties of the material even further and means that a steel can be manufactured that has exactly the right properties for its purpose.

VanadiumStrong, hardTools
Q3: Does alloy steel rust?
A: As strong as alloy steel is, it doesn’t make it any less vulnerable to rust when exposed to the elements since it is ferrous (containing iron).
Q4: What are the properties of alloys?
A: In general, alloys have been found to be stronger and harder, less malleable, less ductile, and more corrosion-resistant than the main metal making the alloy. An alloy mixture is stronger because it contains atoms from different elements that are different in sizes.
Q5: Is alloy steel stronger than stainless steel?
A: Carbon steel and stainless steel both are metal alloys but stainless steel does not rust and is softer than carbon steel which makes it easy to weld. Hence, Stainless steel is better and stronger than carbon steel.
Q6: Is stainless steel a low alloy steel?
A: Stainless steels are defined as low-carbon steels with at least 10% chromium with or without other alloying elements. AISI 4130 alloy steel has properties better than or similar to aircraft-grade stainless steels. Alloy steels are less expensive and more-easily machined than standard stainless grades.
